As a result of being a member of StainedGlassville, the PREMIER website for glass artists, our illustrious host Gary spread the word about a self publishing website called LULU.COM. Several other members who are hugely talented design artists have also created pattern books that are currently for sale on Lulu.com. If you haven't checked this site out please do.
But I digress, it occurred to me that since I particularly enjoy designing, and animals seem to be my design subjects of choice I put together a compilation of dog breeds. The book is called "Pinnacle Pups" Best of Show 2008 and the link to preview it is: http://www.lulu.com/browse/preview.php?fCID=4400661
This book contains the top 10 dog breeds for the year 2008, plus a few that are not in the top ten but that I'm particularly fond of. Some are dogs I've grown up with, friends dogs and our current breed of choice, The American Staffordshire Terrier. I certainly hope that everyone enjoys these patterns just as much as I enjoyed creating them. I'd like to think that they are some of the more realistic depictions of the dog breeds that have ever been created in stained glass.
As I posted in the previous blog, I have a piece I designed called "Dante" on display at the Skyline Farm Art Sale and Show. It will be on display there for one month. It is there for display only as I've donated a Gift Certificate to help raise money to keep the farm as a free space and open to our community.
"Yesterday I received an email from the President of Skyline Farm letting me know that one of the artists liked my work...this is her email!
Yesterday one of our best artists, Beth Carlson, came to view the exhibit, because she couldn't make it to the opening. She stopped at your stained glass piece and looked at the photo and said what a wonderful job you had done! I thought it would mean a lot coming from another artist.
Actually I think your high bid so far is from an artist :-)"
Congratulations (and thank you), Pam
Needless to say I was thrilled, as Ms. Carlson is a well known artist in horse and dog circles, has had her paintings published as cover art for national horse and dog magazines and several of her paintings are now owned by the American Kennel Club Museum and The National Bird Dog Museum. If you'd like to learn more about Beth please click on the link in the previous post for Skyline Farm.
I was definitely doing the happy dance after reading this email!
I was invited to donate an item to the silent auction for Skyline Farm. Which is a non profit group who have purchased in the effort to save a beautiful North Yarmouth farm from being purchased and subdivided into house lots. Many local children learned to ride when Skyline was a riding stable...myself included...and have very fond memories of the horses that taught us! This show contains an exceptional display of a variety of oils, pastels, metal work, among other items included in it. I donated a $100.00 gift certificate for a commissioned piece of stained glass...I'm also hoping that this will give me some name recognition in the process. It is my hope that Skyline's silent auction will help them raise much needed funds to keep this outstanding piece of property available for horseback & carriage riding, dog activities and just the enjoyment of the trail system that Skyline provides. You may learn more about Skyline Farm, and their upcoming events at the following link.
I have been fortunate to work on some very interesting repairs and beautifying some old pieces that have been totally transformed after repairs. I only wish that I'd taken more pics of the pieces that I've repaired, and more before and after's.
You'd be surprised what can be repaired. Just contact me if you have a repair need.
These are some of my original patterns...please respect the right that they are my copyright and not to be downloaded and used without my express permission. I will add that I'm pretty flexible. What you will receive: I will email to you one colored copy of the pattern, along with one black and white numbered copy. It is up to you to have the pattern enlarged to whatever size is easiest for you to work with. "One caveat..these patterns may be used for personal use only, I'd prefer that they not be used for commercial use or marketed as your own finished works." That being said, I hope you enjoy seeing these patterns! Pisces Glass Works
I've been working with stained glass for 20+ years or so. In the beginning I took a class through our local recreation department. That got me hooked! For awhile I made beautiful stained glass objects for my friends and family as gifts.
After going through some life changes I decided that I needed to go back to my art. And now I have a beautiful shop/retail facility at my home. I teach classes and enjoy seeing how delighted my students are with their very first piece of stained glass.
I have made a transition to designing my own patterns and am able to design and create some very intricate designs using Glass Eye 2000.
I feel that I can design just about anything that a customer could want and truly enjoy creating something unique and unusual.
I hope that you enjoy your visit to my blog. And if you are interested in classes or having something commissioned, please feel free to call me at 207.653.2245.
